No, I Will Not Protect Your Weak-Ass Candidates, I Will Vet the Living Shit Out of Them

I’ve briefly touched on this point here and there lately, but just a quick romp ‘round the interwebs proves this deserves to be addressed as the main topic of an article. Pronto. So let’s do this thing.

The tone-deaf audacity of Establishment Democrats has apparently reached critical mass even at this early stage of the game. How else can you explain them demanding that their neo-liberal candidates be exempt from any sort of vetting process?

Seriously? What are these people thinking? Are they thinking?

It’s not only acceptable to vet any and all candidates, but it’s also our duty as vigilant citizens to do so. An informed electorate makes better choices. This doesn’t always pan out so well for the DNC, but alas, it’s part of that little thing we like to call “Democracy.”

Why the hell should the American public relinquish their right (and responsibility) to research the potential nominees before making their choice? Since when is the Democratic Party above reproach? As far as I’m concerned, they’d have a long, upward climb just to be considered beneath reproach.

Bullying voters to ignore the track record of your candidate is outrageously presumptive. It also strongly implies you are well aware your corporatist darlings won’t pass muster under the slightest scrutiny.

This does not inspire confidence in you or your party.

So, if you don’t want the American People knowing that your candidate is in bed with the fossil fuel or pharmaceutical industries, maybe, just maybe, you should take these issues up with the candidates themselves instead of killing the well-informed messenger.

The establishment Dems must stop insisting that anyone who’s not a registered Republican owes them their vote by default. No. No, we do not. Independents don’t owe the Democratic Party jackshit. Not protection, not coddling, not loyalty, and certainly not our votes.

And no, we don’t need to “come together” to defeat the Orange Anal Wart. Just stop it with that shit. What we really need to do is address actual issues instead of crediting Trump with FAR more power than he actually has. Hillary didn’t get her coronation. Die mad about it, or use all that pent-up rage to get us some healthcare and economic justice. You know, something *productive.

*Fear-mongering and vote-shaming isn’t productive.

And let’s debunk another beloved neo-liberal fantasy: Independents are not splitting the Democratic Party. It’s pretty hard to split a party one doesn’t even belong to. If your party is in shambles, look to your neo-liberal leadership unwilling to put the needs of the American People over their lobbyist kickbacks. THEREIN LIES YOUR PROBLEM.

And the problem is that we have two right-wing parties protecting the oligarchy, and no-one protecting the people.

But it gets better. According to The National Journal:

The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee is making an early move to deter primary challenges against sitting incumbents in the caucus with a new policy aimed in part at protecting the new majority.

The campaign arm on Friday sent out a list of hiring standards to more than 100 political firms, including one provision that made clear it will neither contract with nor recommend to House candidates any political vendors that work to oust sitting members of Congress.

In other words, The Democrats have decided that Democracy is simply too dangerous to the survival of the Democratic Party. After all, the limousine liberals know what’s best for you. Accept what you are given, peasants.

There’s no incentive to coddle or protect the Democratic Party. What have they done to warrant unflinching loyalty? Have they brokered world peace? Did they start handing out free healthcare?

I must have been absent that day.

I will do my best to make sure as many people as possible are aware of this asshattery, and hope you will too. I will vet the ever-loving shit out of every Democratic candidate and share what I find. And, once again, if the Democratic Party finds this troubling, perhaps they should consider advancing candidates that don’t have more skeletons in the closet than Morticia Addams.

Until then, and god knows I’m not holding my breath, I will meticulously vet the bejeebus out of every single potential nominee and watch with glee as the steam pours out of the establishment Democrats’ willfully ignorant ears.
