When Life Gets in the Way of Living

All you can do is what you can do

Well, hello there. Fancy meeting me here, huh?

Didn’t mean to suddenly dip like that, but sometimes shit happens. And shit has been happening non-fucking-stop.

Like what, you ask? Well, some pretty heinous health challenges, for starters. I forget that I’m not too young for old people diseases now, even though I’m perpetually twenty-years-old in my head.

So, my head might be twenty but my lungs, kidneys, and vascular system are not, alas.

All very alarming, but the absolute worst part was finding out I have no support system to speak of, which is pretty terrifying.

Oh, I get the platitudes of course. The well wishes and the thoughts and prayers.

But everyone has their own problems and their own lives to attend to. I’ve found out the hard way that just because I’ve always dropped everything to be everyone’s caretaker, amateur shrink, and death doula my whole life doesn’t mean I’ll have the same done for me.

Another lesson learned.

So, yeah, it’s been a struggle, and I’ve only just begun to deal with it all.

But I’m dealing with it.

And it’s just not health crap. For the past few years I’ve been put through the wringer emotionally in ways that are almost unimaginable.

When I am finally at liberty to talk and in a place where I can share it without affecting my blood pressure, you can bet I’ll be writing all about it both as a cautionary tale and as a way to exorcise my demons.

And I miss writing here. I miss the camaraderie, I miss reading all your awesome shit, I miss writing for my favorite pubs. Not participating on Medium has left a gaping hole in my life.

But something had to give, and writing for a steady paycheck, which I’m lucky enough to be doing now (when I’m well enough anyway), obviously takes priority over the hit-or-miss “thrill” of writing on Medium.

But I have some ideas I’d like to put to “paper,” and I hope you guys will stick around to see it. Nothing heavy at first, but I’ve been bursting with pop culture content ideas for months.

So don’t say you havent been warned.

And thank you, as always, for reading. I appreciate you and I miss you.
